Public Administration and Justice Studies (PAJS), Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies

This interdisciplinary program blends liberal arts and administrative studies courses, focusing on the current and emerging debates around the law and social and criminal justice in Canada . PAJS places a strong emphasis on helping students appreciate the increasing diversity of Canadian society, and its relationship to public institutions and the law. This BA and BA, Specialized Honours degree program is ideal for those already working in the field of law, criminal justice, and corrections who aspire to management positions, or for those who want a university education prior to entering into a career in any sector involving the law and issues of criminal or social justice.

Public Policy and Administration (PPA), Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies

The Public Policy and Administration program (PPA) is a Specialized Honours BA degree, emphasizing the political and policy context of public administration, introducing students to the essentials of political science in addition to a solid public administration core. Its purpose is to provide students with the skills required for public sector employment as well as giving them a broad and liberal education. Between their third and fourth years, students may have an oppurtunity to participate in an internship program in government.

Public Policy and Management (PPM), Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies

The BA and BA, Specialized Honours degree program in Public Policy and Management (PPM) is a public administration and policy program with a strong emphasis on the development of practical management skills and the interface between government and business. Students working or intending to work in the not-for-profit sector, in business especially where it interacts with government or is subject to significant regulations, as well as in the public service will find this program of interest. The program combines courses in public administration with a focus on financial management, organizational behaviour, project management, leadership, and human resources management.

Bilingual Public Administration and Public Policy, Glendon College

Glendon’s unique language immersion experience is ideally suited to public administration studies. With training in both English and French, students completing the Bilingual Certificate program gain a definite competitive edge in Canada’s public service job market. Providing solid foundations in economics, political science, and qualitative and quantitative methods, the Certificate is the perfect complement to any York BA. Courses will introduce students to important, recurring themes in public policy and administration, as well as emerging trends and debates . Public Sector Management, Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies

This Professional Certificate equips professionals with the specific skills and knowledge needed to take on a greater leadership role in the public sector, with studies in human resources management, financial management, politics and law, and public administration. This Certificate is intended primarily for students who are specializing in a discipline other than public administration (such as social work, psychology, or economics), but who wish to acquire basic public administration skills. Courses are offered primarily in the evenings.
