Programming

Visual Arts

There's a lot more to visual arts than just painting and drawing. At the YYC we also have fun making art by working with natural objects and materials. Making masks, weaving fabric, and other activities encourage our campers' talents, imagination and artistry!

Theatre

They don't call it a "play" for nothing. In our camp play equals fun! At the YYC we create our own plays. Campers have an opportunity to explore themselves through role-playing activities while creating their own skits, plays, shows, improvisation, theatre games, mimes, and more.

Physical Activity

At YYC we make use of all that good summer weather to be physically active every day. We play sports, games and activities aimed at getting our campers moving. Swimming will also be offered on a regular basis.

EcoScience

We encourage an interest in science and the environment through fun learning activities with an ecological or "green" focus. Ecoscience activities include hands-on learning and exploring the natural environment on or around the campus.

Swimming Information

All campers have the opportunity to participate in swimming at York University's Tait McKenzie Pool. Qualified lifeguards and YYC staff supervise swimming activities. Swimming is primarily recreational (free swim and recreational water games) and each camper will participate in a swim test at the beginning of each session to test his/her ability. Swimmers unable to pass the deep end test will be required to remain in the shallow end. Younger campers with no or limited swimming ability may be provided with and asked to wear a Personal Floatation Device (life-jacket). Children who are not permitted to swim because of medical and other extenuating circumstances must inform the Camp Office.

YYC has integrated "Swim to Survive" into its swim activities. This Program was introduced at YYC in 2009, and offers campers with little or no swimming experience the opportunity to learn basic swim skills and develop an understanding of water safety.

Food Policy No Nut Products

Due to the seriousness of peanut related allergies, the YYC has adopted a NO NUT PRODUCT food policy. Parents/caregivers are requested to adhere to the policy for the safety of all campers.

Campers will not be permitted to bring any lunch or snacks which contain peanuts, such as peanut butter, peanut granola snacks, peanut sauce, and others.

If your child has a serious allergy, please inform the Camp Office.

Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated.

Camper Drop-off and Pick-up Information

Campers ages 11 and under must have adult supervision at all times during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Children 12 and over can arrive and leave camp unescorted but will require the parent/guardian to indicate this on the camper release form.

Only adults (ages 16 and over) listed on the camper release form will be allowed to pick up a camper. Prior to releasing a camper, YYC staff may ask the adult to present photo ID.

Before and After Care

Camp hours are from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. Families requiring before and after care must indicate so on their registration form. Children not picked up on time will be charged a fee of $1/minute.
