Kortright Centre for Conservation

Join us for a project at the Kortright Centre for Conservation located in Vaughan, just north of Toronto. Kortright's property spans 325 hectares of land, which includes hiking trails, wetlands, meadows, hard wood forests, a low ropes course, a farm, playing fields, and the Humber River that flows through.

As an outdoor education centre, Kortright has over 40 engaging educational programs that are linked to the Ontario curriculum – for example, Air and Water in the Environment highlights the importance of water in our lives and the need to protect it; Growth and Change in Animals focuses on the differences between groups of living things.

Thousands of students visit Kortright every year to enhance their in-class learning and enjoy a hands-on experience of nature in a beautiful setting. To continue to deliver cutting-edge programs to school groups, Kortright must continue to revise and update these programs. As York University students, you will work together to help us review and revise our educational programs to ensure they are up-to-date with the newest Ontario Science curriculum released in 2022. You will review the activities within the programs to ensure they are engaging and supplement with ideas of your own as needed.

Along with the important task of revision, Kortright is always looking for new and creative ways to engage elementary and secondary students. Depending on capacity, you may have the opportunity to work as a group to develop brand new programs under the guidance of education staff.

If you are an individual that values learning in nature and are interested in diving deep into the new science curriculum, then this is the project for you!
