Job description

Student Services is a branch within the field of education. Those who work in student services provide a multitude of resources for students in post-secondary institutions. Student Services can be within academics, student life, or residency. There are a large variety of positions within student services, such as student success coordinator, assistant director, student life manager, student engagement coordinator, student mentor, and assistant dean of students. Each of these positions provides students with assistance, resources, information and support throughout their post-secondary journey. They work tirelessly to ensure that students are comfortable and achieve their goals within university or college. They are an additional support to students on campus. Some duties of student services workers include scheduling meetings with students, advising and giving advice to students, dealing with student issues, tracking student development, attending large staff meetings, attending committee meetings, and reporting meeting findings to a faculty counsel afterwards. This job also has unpredictable hours, no one day looks the same as another. Those who work in this field must be available to students for drop-in appointments or be prepared to meet with students longer than anticipated to ensure student success.
