The 4999 Presenting Projects

The 4999 Project

This project focuses on the course. Students will work with the Course Director to evaluate the course as it progresses, and will be responsible for designing and delivering 4 in person sessions in the Winter Semester, including the final awards session.

This project will develop evaluation, project management, event management and communication skills.

The EDST4999 capstone course for the BA Educational Studies program involves 110 students working on 30 community based projects. It is experiential and practical in nature. Students are given latitude to manage their projects and to decide on output. With multiple projects covering a range of areas it can be difficult to ensure a sense of group community and cohesion and for all students to have a sense of the work of the rest of the class. The focus of this project will be on how to engage students in the work of their peers while concentrating on their own projects. How can we ensure mutual learning between projects as well as instilling a sense of pride and ownership by teams for their work? Students in this project will investigate the needs and interests of the class, determine the best way to showcase each of the projects and ensure a successful final awards event. They will explore what expertise is available to help plan and execute this event. The students in this project will identify who to invite, how to manage the event, what to include and how to best present the work of the class and their unique project output. Should there be individual team awards, should we spotlight individuals, what is most compelling and engaging? You decide.
