Program

We’ve combined the best of business and law education in a flexible four-year program you can tailor to fit your goals.

The Hennick JD/MBA program integrates the Osgoode JD, which takes three years to complete as a standalone program, with the two-year Schulich MBA to create a four-year combined program, in which graduates earn both their JD and MBA degrees. Year one of the program is spent at either Osgoode or Schulich. In year two, you do the reverse. Your third and fourth years are devoted to studying business and law together. The result is a unique education blending the analytical rigour of law school with the problem-solving strategies of business school – and the critical thinking skills demanded by both.

An Overview of the Program

A new cohort of the Hennick JD/MBA program commences studies every September. You can apply to enter the program directly in year one or seek admission while completing your first year of study at either Osgoode or Schulich. (For all the details, please see the Admissions section.)

Four years of full-time study (eight terms):

Two terms

Schulich MBA year one curriculum

Two terms

Osgoode JD year one curriculum

Four terms

Combined Schulich and Osgoode courses

The JD curriculum begins by immersing you in the fundamentals of legal education, exploring all aspects of the law with the intense focus on academic excellence for which Osgoode is renowned. In your final two years, you can choose from more than 150 lecture courses and interactive seminars covering both traditional legal topics and emerging fields of study. Woven through the curriculum are experiential learning opportunities designed to let you discover firsthand how legal concepts are applied to practical solutions.

Similarly, the Schulich MBA curriculum grounds you in the core capabilities required to excel in an organization and lead others, whether you plan a career in the private, public or not-for-profit sectors. Building on that foundation, you then dig deeper into your chosen areas of specialization, gaining invaluable knowledge and skills. You apply what you’ve learned either in a team-based consulting project for a client organization or by helping a company enter an overseas market as part of the Schulich Global Leadership Program.

A Wide Choice of Courses

Here are just a few of the courses you can explore in the Hennick JD/MBA program:

*Joint JD/MBA Seminar

International Business

*Courses available exclusively to students of the Hennick JD/MBA

In your third and fourth years, you build a unique program of study from the combined Osgoode and Schulich course offerings. In addition to lecture and seminar courses, the program provides many other opportunities to earn credits, including working in a clinical program, developing a research paper, helping edit a law journal, taking a graduate course in another York faculty or pursuing an international exchange at a partner law or business school.

For your consulting project, there are options to travel internationally.

Summer Term Courses

To complement your JD/MBA studies, you can also take business courses at Schulich during the Summer term. This can give you added flexibility in your choice of courses for the Fall and Winter terms – by enabling you, for instance, to take more law courses. Please note that completing summer courses, which are subject to Schulich’s part-time tuition fees, does not reduce the number of required credits in the Fall and Winter terms.
