Admissions

You can enter the Hennick JD/MBA program directly or after your first year at Osgoode or Schulich.

For either admissions route, you need to be accepted by both the JD program at Osgoode and the MBA program at Schulich. If you’re seeking admission to year one of the four-year Hennick JD/MBA, you submit separate applications to both schools at the same time. Alternatively, you can start studying at one school and apply to the other during your first year, aiming to enter the Hennick JD/MBA program in year two.

General Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Hennnick JD/MBA program, you must have:

  • An undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with a minimum A- average in your last two full years (or equivalent) of study. We also consider some applicants with three-year degrees if they have an additional year of relevant work experience beyond the two-year minimum required by the Schulich MBA program.
  • A score in the 85th percentile or higher on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is recommended.*
    • *If accepted to Osgoode, your LSAT will be used for Schulich admissions in place of a Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score.
  • A score around the 85th percentile or higher on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is required.
  • Post-degree work experience, while not mandatory, is strongly recommended, as you will be in MBA classes with students who typically have worked for four to five years.
  • If seeking entry to the JD/MBA while in your first year of law school (1L), we look for a ‘B’ average in your 1L courses.

1. Direct Admissions to the JD/MBA

Applications to Osgoode Hall Law School are due November 1 for the following September. You should indicate that you are applying to the JD program with a JD/MBA specialization. • OLSAS online application form.
  • Personal statement and supplemental information.
  • Letters of reference.
  • Transcripts.
  • Validated LSAT test result.
  • Autobiographical sketch.
  • Language proficiency documents (if applicable).

For more details, you can review Osgoode’s application guidelines here.

Applications to the Schulich School of Business have a rolling deadline. You can create a profile in Schulich’s online system and upload your personal details, essays and documents as required. As a prospective Hennick JD/MBA student, your application to Schulich’s MBA program must include the following:

  • An undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with a minimum B average in the last two full years (or equivalent) of academic work. (But note that admission to the JD/MBA requires a minimum A- average.)
  • Validated GMAT or GRE test results.
    • Validated LSAT test results will be used in place of GMAT or GRE results if accepted to Osgoode.
  • Minimum two years of relevant post-degree, full-time work or life experience.

If you are admitted to both the Osgoode JD program and the Schulich MBA program prior to July 1, you can start your first year Hennick JD/MBA studies either in the law school’s foundational JD classes or in the business school’s foundational MBA classes. However, if you are offered and enrolled in one program before July 1 and then subsequently accepted in the second program after that date, you’ll begin year one classes at the school where you were first enrolled.

2. In-course Applications

If you have begun your studies in either the Osgoode JD program or the Schulich MBA program and then decide to pursue a JD/MBA degree, you can apply during your first year to the other Hennick JD/MBA school where you are not currently enrolled. Both Schulich and Osgoode hold Hennick JD/MBA information sessions for year one students during the fall and winter terms.

  • Schulich MBA students apply to Osgoode through the online Ontario Law School Application Service (OLSAS), following the same steps outlined above for first year JD admissions (see section 1, Direct Admissions).
  • Osgoode JD students apply to Schulich directly following the steps outlined above (see section 1, Direct Admissions) – your first year law grades will be taken into consideration as part of the admissions process.
