Career Services

The JD/MBA is your path to a career in business and law. We help you take the vital first steps toward your goals.

The first point of contact for Hennick JD/MBA students seeking career development guidance is our Associate Director, who provides one-on-one counselling and coordinates efforts with the career services teams of both Schulich and Osgoode. The Associate Director also advises on the latest professional requirements, as well as the expectations of law firms and business organizations that partner with our program. In addition, career-bound students benefit from professional and social networking opportunities arranged by the JD/MBA Students’ Association.

Preparing for Your Future Career

The Assistant Director provides individual counselling sessions on a wide range of career-related topics, including how to set personal priorities, researching potential future paths, choosing an area of legal or business practice, pursuing opportunities (or creating them), dealing with societal expectations around career choices, navigating the recruitment process – and most importantly, developing career management skills that you’ll use and build on for years to come. Before your third and fourth year of the program, you will receive academic counselling to ensure you are meeting all graduation requirements of both degrees and taking courses to help you achieve your career goals. The Assistant Director can help you plan when is the best time to go on exchange (either through Osgoode or Schulich). As a lawyer, the Assistant Director can also advise you on all aspects of qualifying for professional licensing bodies, including the New York State Bar.

“One of the key benefits to having participated in the JD/MBA program is that…I became acutely aware of the importance of collaboration and open-mindedness in the context of solving problems.
