I would encourage new students to participate in extra-curricular activities, communicate frequently with the professors, and look for help when necessary. The most surprising experience for me at York was that I felt like a young adult in my first year. I participated in many clubs and stayed on campus late socializing with many other students. It was a great start to my university career.
