Supervisor of Strategy and Transformation Division - Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, The Corporation of the Township of King
Graduate Program in Public Policy, Administration & Law, Master of Public Policy, Administration and Law (MPPAL) 2021

Tell prospective students a bit about the work you do.
I work as the Supervisor of the Strategy and Transformation Division within the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer with the Township of King. My team and I are responsible for managing and coordinating the corporate strategic planning process for the Township; developing, implementing, and overseeing strategic management systems and performance measurement frameworks to support corporate commitments. Additionally, my team and I are also responsible for consulting, supporting, and serving internal departments through the Project Management Office, a sub-service of my division, to better deliver projects that meet their identified objectives and achieve greater levels of success as demonstrated through well-developed key performance indicators. Further, my team and I are the leads in the development of the corporate performance management framework and for managing the service review program. This framework and program ensure the Township remains accountable and transparent to Council and its citizenry, while also committing to continuous improvement through annual reviews of service offerings, levels of service, delivery models and overall service performance. This facilitates strategic decision making at the Senior Leadership and Extended Leadership levels across the organization about how to consistently ensure citizens are receiving the best value for money from Township services.

Tell prospective students a bit about how your studies at York helped you to get where you are today.

Enrolling in the Master of Public Policy, Administration and Law (MPPAL) program was one of the best decisions I could have made to advance my professional career in the public sector given the skills and knowledge gained through my time at York. Markedly, my ability to leverage both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, techniques and tools has helped in the development/facilitation of operational and strategic plans. My understanding of program evaluation objectives, methods and limitations have directly aided me in evaluating services and programs in my current role and allows me to make strategic recommendations to Senior Leadership. Further, the knowledge surrounding strong leadership principles has allowed me to translate them into practice and fostered positive working relationships among my team and across the organization as a member of the Township’s Extended Leadership Team.

I began my public sector career when I left the private sector after five years to accept a student position with the Township of King, with the intent of pursuing graduate level education to enhance my skills that would qualify me for higher level positions. Since then, and during my time in the MPPAL program, I transitioned into administrative, and subsequently, policy roles – eventually leading to me being the successful candidate for my current position. I have such a high level of gratitude for the MPPAL program, professors and fellow MPPAL’ers as I would not be where I am today without them!
