Vignette: As Colette reflected on the past six months, she felt confident that she had helped to raise the profile of teaching and learning at her institution, she had advised colleagues, she had located resources and she had facilitated meetings large and small. Why then did she feel drained? Talking through her feelings with a friend she realized that what she needed was an educational developer to help her. She decided to treat herself as a ‘client’. She reflected on her achievements, identified her goals and worked out a plan to help herself to achieve them. Suddenly the tiredness fell away and she felt energized and excited about the future. She had taken control of her own destiny.
