Dr. Michael Kalu — Adapting Diabetes Guidelines through Afrocentric Co-Creation
In this short talk, Dr. Michael Kalu shares how his research seeks to adapt diabetes self-management guidelines to reflect the lived experiences and cultural practices of Black older adults. By co-creating guidelines with older adults, clinicians, and dietitians, his work aims to make self-management tools more culturally relevant and effective.
Ultimately, this research aims to produce co-designed and culturally relevant diabetes self-management guidelines that empower Black older adults to confidently manage their health at home, improving understanding, adherence, and overall well-being.

Aaliyah Sterling – SSHRC Student
Aaliyah Sterling, a recipient of the 2025 Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Undergraduate Student Research Award, joined the M4 and Aging Lab under the supervision of Dr. Michael Kalu. She presents her ongoing systematic review on fraudulent participation in virtual research studies, exploring how fraudulent responses impact data quality, ethics, and the integrity of online research.
