GS/FACC 6850 - Financial Accountability Practicum

This course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore the relationship between theory and practice in financial accountability through an internship-type experience.

Our practicums involve:

  • Direct arrangements being made between the student and employer and facilitated by the Instructor, MFAc Internship Advisory Board, and Faculty Experiential Experience Program Coordinator in accordance with York University protocols.
  • A minimum of 10 hours a week of employment for 22 consecutive weeks (part-time) or 30 hours a week for 10 consecutive weeks (full-time).
  • Students attending 10 three-hour classes where they participate together in discussing reports as they are prepared.
  • Five student presentations during their practicum.
  • A written report by the student on a topic related to their practicum and MFAc courses, which is agreed upon between the instructor, employer, and student.
  • Employer participation in the grading of the interim and final reports, with optional participation in either or both of the interim and final report presentations.

Eligible students:

  • Are enrolled in our unsubsidized graduate degree of four semesters and eleven courses.
  • Can take this course as their elective or as an additional course within their degree.
  • Must have completed FACC6000 and fulfill all eligibility requirements.
  • Usually have business degrees prior to admission to York and have been admitted into our graduate program.
  • Are often international students with international work experience who are looking to work in Canada.
