Public Talks

In May 2021 I presented about DUNE at the online Speaker’s Night of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Toronto, Canada.

In February 2021 I related the triumphant discovery of the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider:

What is so special about neutrinos?

"The Drift" series gives researchers a chance to answer questions about the science done at the Sanford Underground Research Facility. This laboratory located in South Dakota, US, will host the so-called Far Detector of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE).

Neutrino Day

Sanford Underground Research Facility’s "Neutrino Day: A Matter Mystery" was an online event dedicated to the research on the neutrino. In a special Q&A session, DUNE scientists answer questions about the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment.

The triumphant discovery of the Higgs boson

This public talk retraces the fascinating journey of the long-sought Higgs boson, a missing piece in the theory of elementary particles. Why did physicists hunt for it for more than a half century? And how is it changing our world?

McGill Physical Society Colloquium

This 50 min colloquium relates the research I performed during my postdoctoral years, analyzing data to find a rare production mode of the Higgs boson and making measurements in the lab on a prototype for the next generation of particle detectors at the Large Hadron Collider.

Panels

Invited speaker to the panel discussion of Particle Fever at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF)

While based at TRIUMF during my Ph.D., I arrived one day to discover a VIFF gold pass on my desk. TRIUMF selected me to be part of the panel discussion of Particle Fever in Vancouver. I got quite emotional, especially while recognizing many of my colleagues on a big screen. The movie directors were there and I could share with the audience afterwards what it is to be an experimental particle physicist. This movie makes you experience the frantic moments of the Large Hadron Collider's biggest achievement: the discovery of the Higgs boson.

But hbar? Particle Interactions in Physics and Arts: Artistic Transformation

Vancouver's Emily Carr University of Art + Design (ECUAD) invited scientists as part of a project to show the parallels between art and science. It all started when artists from ECUAD visited the TRIUMF particle physics laboratory to find inspiration for their work. Scientists were invited afterwards to comment on their creations. A fascinating discussion ensued, revealing surprising connections between two worlds and a common quest shared by scientists and artists in 'connecting the unconnected.'
