Each year, the Toronto International Film Festival’s Canada’s Top Ten list recognizes the best in recent Canadian films. This year’s selections include two films featuring work by alumni cast and crew from York University's School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design.

Among the feature-length films selected is Matt & Mara, which was directed, co-written and produced by Kaz Radwanski. The movie, about an academic connecting with an old college friend, also stars Matt Johnson and was executive produced by his frequent collaborator, Matt Miller. Both creatives are coming off receiving multiple Canadian Screen Awards for their work on the critically praised movie, Blackberry.
Matt & Mara features the contributions of other York alumni as well, including cinematography by Nikolay Michaylov, editing Ajla Odobašić, assembly editing Kalil Haddad, colouring by Conor Fisher, additional sound by Siyao Guo, and electric by Satrio Prahasto, Sebastian Eguiarte, Sam Holling and Ibrahim Issa.

Canada’s Top Ten list also recognizes short films, and this year’s selections include One Day This Kid, written and directed by alum Alexander Farah.
The film explores how a first-generation Afghan Canadian man takes steps toward establishing an identity of his own.
The movie also includes the work of cinematographer Adam Crosy, as well as camera operator and animation director Jared Raab, who last year earned a Canadian Screen Award for cinematography for his work on Blackberry.
