Recognition by The Royal Society of Canada is the highest honour an individual can achieve in the Arts, Social Sciences and Sciences. Elected to The Royal Society for 2020 are York Professors Molly Ladd-Taylor, William Wicken, John Greyson, Rui Wang, Benjamin Berger and Mark Terry.
The award recognizes a woman who has made a substantial contribution to the legal community as an academic, adjudicator, litigator, solicitor, author or in a related profession. She will receive the award at a virtual gala event on Aug. 6.
Associate Professor David Doorey recently launched a blog and released two new books, each of which explore issues related to work law. Canadian law and graduate students have an opportunity to earn $200 to help them through the COVID-19 pandemic for contributing content to the blog, the Canadian Law and Work Forum.
Five webinars for lawyers on topics related to COVID-19 are now available free of charge to the public. The webinars, which were developed by Osgoode Professional Development, cover virtual communication; ongoing risk and crisis management; lawyering and social distancing; oral advocacy in a virtual world; and conducting remote hearings and mediations.
Osgoode Hall Law School is welcoming Luke McDonagh to York University as the latest presenter in the IP Osgoode Speaks Series. McDonagh’s talk, titled “Copyright and Collaboration in Works of Theatre,” will take place on March 2 beginning at 2:30 p.m. in Osgoode Hall Room 2003 at the Keele Campus.
Peter Wardell Hogg, dean emeritus and professor emeritus at Osgoode Hall Law School and one of Canada’s leading constitutional law scholars, died Feb. 4. He was 80 years old. Prof. Hogg was appointed a professor of Law at Osgoode Hall Law School in 1970 and became dean in 1998, serving until 2003, when he joined the Toronto law firm Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP as a scholar in residence.
