if you have a student in your Participant list who has a status of suspended that means that the student has dropped the course.
This was a feature introduced in Moodle 3.4, the students remain on the participant list but do not maintain access to the course. They are also not removable.
When a student drops a course through SIS, their status in the participant list will change to suspended within 48-72 hours. Once their status in the Participant list is changed to "suspended", they will not be able to access the course, or it's materials and communications.
They remain in the course list and their status changes to suspended. The students are not removed from the participant list because when a student is completely removed from the course (instead of being in a suspended state), all of their submitted coursework and grading is lost. As there are instances where a student will rejoin a course (either they dropped it by accident or they have decided they shouldn't have dropped it in the first place, etc.), they can rejoin without having lost their already submitted work.
Generally, depending on when the student triggers the process by unenrolling from a course, their status should be changed in the participant's list to "suspended" no later than 48-72 hours later.
How can I see only actively enrolled students in my Participants list:
To filter your participant list in eClass to show only currently enrolled students follow these steps
- Go to Participants in the left navigation menu on eClass
- At the top, you will find a section that allows you to filter your participant list.
- Apply these settings to the filters:
- Match: Any
- Select Roles: Student
- Click Apply filters
