Director's Message

Philosopher Hegel’s wisdom of hindsight, “The owl of Minerva begins its flight only with the coming of the dusk,” fits the context of emergency management today, where it is critical to reflect on and learn from past events in order to anticipate the consequences of hazardous events of the present and future - to prevent harm to people, minimize economic losses, and avoid environmental degradation. On this dynamic planet, disasters can originate from a variety of sources – natural hazards, technological failings, human errors, or intentional. The Master of Disaster & Emergency Management curriculum aims to cover these aspects and prime students to explore novel solutions and approaches for challenges that lie ahead.
