Analyst, Natural Resources Canada
Public Administration, Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) 2021

Tell prospective students a bit about the work you do.

I recently transferred to the Natural Resources Canada - NRCan from Public Services and Procurement Canada - PSPC where I worked as a junior analyst. I work as an Analyst in the EC-02 capacity with the Planning and Reporting team. I assist my manager and team in drafting the NRCan Integrated Business Planning (IBP). I work and liaise with all branches in terms of collecting their input within NRCan to assist the corporate corporate team draft the IBP. In addition to that, I have also worked in the Ontario Public Service (OPS) as a Research Analyst conducting jurisdictional research on renewing the Ontario Compensation System. I presented my research findings to the Policy and Fiscal Oversight unit Director at the Ontario Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS).

Tell prospective students a bit about how your studies at York helped you to get where you are today.

Studying at York, specifically at the School of Public Policy and Administration (SPPA), helped me tremendously to get into government. What distinguishes the BPA program from others at York is the unique ability to teach practical skills using real-world projects working with government and municipalities. The School's faculty are always supportive and help students on an individual basis if you spend some effort to know them and engage with the workshops and conferences within the School. Professors, alumni, and students are there to help you and each other. If you are someone who enjoys networking, there is never a shortage of opportunities to get to know people who can and will help you with your future endeauvors and plans within the OPS and the wider Federal Public Service. Grades help you only enough - to distinguish yourself from others, you will need to introduce yourself to the BPA community through various events and activities within the School that are designed to help you achieve your goals. Overall, you will not be disappointed: the program and faculty are friendly and approachable to help you whenever you need direction.
