Tell prospective students a bit about the work you do.

I'm an acting senior policy analyst on the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy (OSB)'s Policy & Regulatory Affairs (PRA) team. Prior to working in policy, I worked in data analytics which involved using data analytics software and SQL programming language to extract big data, report statistics and information to internal and external stakeholders, and develop business intelligence tools that support the modernization of the OSB's compliance programs. I have also worked in the OSB's regulatory operations which comprised of handling statutory complaints, monitoring stakeholders' compliance with legislation and regulations, conducting investigations and audits, and carrying out the duties of an Official Receiver.

As of August 2022, I serve as co-chair of Future Leaders of Ontario, the inter-departmental network for young professionals employed with the Government of Canada and based in the Ontario Region. In my capacity as co-chair, I lead the delivery of events and programming that connect GC employees based in the Ontario Region and support their professional development.

I am also a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada's Toronto Region Chapter. As a member of the Board, I lead the communications and events portfolios and support the delivery of events and programming that aim to promote excellence in public administration.

Tell prospective students a bit about how your studies at York helped you to get where you are today.

The MPPAL program has enriched my understanding of Canadian public law and public administration. The administrative law course taught me the legal responsibilities of administrative bodies which are important to delivering services fairly and maintaining public confidence in government. Through the human resources course, I learned different approaches to leadership and management which will inform the decisions I make with respect to my leadership style as I work towards transitioning into leadership roles. As well, writing the major research paper allowed students to explore in depth a topic of interest and relevance to their personal and/or professional development. I chose to enrich my understanding of the regulatory principles which underpin the delivery of many regulatory programs in government. I was able to do primary research which allowed me to conducti interviews with leaders in Ontario's municipal sector to understand how municipal regulators respond to regulatory risk and non-compliance. By conducting interviews, I expanded my professional network, gained a better understanding of, and appreciation for, the municipal sector's regulatory powers and their relationship with the province, and I learned extensively from the experiences of municipalities in regulatory compliance program development and delivery.

Overall, the MPPAL program has helped me become a more well-rounded public servant. It has allowed me to learn from my peers how different sectors and organizations in the public sector operate, and to build long-lasting relationships with emerging and seasoned leaders in the public sector.
