Clare Wall finished her doctorate in English literature on contemporary climate fiction at York in 2021. She is currently a Course Instructor at the University of Toronto Mississauga, where she teaches first year writing courses. She is also an ESL instructor at the Centre for English studies in Toronto. During her time at York, Clare discovered a deep love of teaching through the professional development opportunities offered through York's Teaching Commons, including an interest in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL). This September, she is hoping to begin a research project for a reflective time-capsule writing activity she developed this past year. She has also taught courses in popular culture at several institutions including York, OCADU, and Trent Durham and worked during the pandemic as a coordinator for UHN’s Trainee program planning and promoting training and professional development workshops and events for their postdocs and researchers.

Outside of work, Clare has volunteered in community spaces related to her passions of gaming and science fiction. She has been involved with the Academic Conference for Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy, and has been its Social Media Manager since 2017.

York's amazing instructors encouraged me to develop my own interests in teaching and helped mentor me along the way. The experiences I had through the Teaching Commons also helped me discover avenues of pedagogy and approaches to teaching that have benefitted me in my current areas of work and helped me find employment. I went on to seek several professional development opportunities at York thanks to the encouragement and mentorship of York faculty and the Teaching Commons.
