Novel AI technique able to distinguish between progressive brain tumours and radiation necrosis, York U study finds
While targeted radiation can be an effective treatment for brain tumours, subsequent potential necrosis of the treated areas can be hard to distinguish from the tumours on a standard MRI. A new study led by a York University professor in the Lassonde School of Engineering found that a novel AI-based method is better able to distinguish between the two types of lesions on advanced MRI than the human eye alone, a discovery that could help clinicians more accurately identify and treat the issues.

Dance effective in fighting against cognitive decline in Parkinson’s, York U study finds
A new study led by researchers at York University shows that dance can be beneficial in halting the cognitive decline associated with Parkinson’s disease and, for some participants, they even showed signs of improvement. Faculty of Health Associate Professor Joseph DeSouza, co-author of the study, says since cognition is nearly always expected to decline as the illness progresses and this was a multi-year study, the findings are quite remarkable.

York University continues to excel on the world stage with the latest ShanghaiRanking Consultancy’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), which puts York in the top 75 in the world for four subjects.
Glendon College commemorated with new provincial plaque
The Ontario Heritage Trust, in collaboration with York University, unveiled a new provincial plaque at Glendon College that recognizes its pivotal role in advancing bilingual education in Ontario and across Canada. Glendon, York University’s founding campus, opened in September 1959 on the Toronto estate, built in the 1920s, that once belonged to the Wood family. Today, Glendon is a cornerstone of Ontario’s educational heritage.
