Young scientists vie for top prize at York Region science fair hosted at York U

Eco-friendly paper packaging made of sprouts, sound-powered batteries to monitor air quality, autonomous robots to assist seniors and AI voice analysis to diagnose early Parkinson’s are just a few of the projects that will be showcased by more than a hundred students as they compete this Saturday at the York Region Science and Technology Fair (YRSTF) at York University. Students in grades 7- 12 from 29 schools across York region will show off 77 projects and compete for a spot at the Canada-wide competition held in Fredericton, NB in late spring of this year.

Improving the quality of life of Alzheimer’s patients, how artificial intelligence can battle wildfires and dual defense systems to tackle auto theft are some of the STEM projects young scientists will show off at the York Region Science and Technology Fair (YRSTF) this Saturday, April 6. Top projects will receive gold, silver and bronze medals and secure the honour of representing York Region at the Canada Wide Science Fair in Ottawa this year.
