Happy Holidays from IP Osgoode! Wishing you a Safe, Healthy, Creative & Innovative New Year!

IP Osgoode would like to wish everyone a happy holiday and a creative and productive new year!  We appreciate your interest, readership, and support over the past year and look forward to another successful year.

With 2020 coming to a close, we reflect on what a challenging, yet inspiring year it has been for IP Osgoode. A few notable highlights:

  • IP Osgoode, in collaboration with the Harry Radzyner Law School at the IDC Herzliya in Israel, and sponsored by Microsoft Canada kicked off the Bracing for Impact AI Webinar Series with our first Webinar taking place on June 22, 2020 on COVID-19 “Contact Tracing: Legal and Ethical Challenges.” We encourage you to review the Webinar recording and read IPilogue post about the event.
  • On December 1, 2020, the Bracing for Impact AI Webinar Series continued with the second Webinar of the Series on “Cyber Challenges to Human Rights” featuring the Honourable Irwin Cotler, Former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, who has recently been named as Canada’s Special Envoy on Preserving Holocaust Remembrance and Combatting Antisemitism. The Webinar recording is now available on our website.
  • We plan to host the next AI webinar on the topic of “Energy and Environment”. More information and registration will be available on IP Osgoode website in early 2020.
  • The IP Innovation Clinic developed a Chatbot to support the provision of free access to IP information in a timely, effective and user-friendly way to help under-resourced inventors and start-ups and, ultimately, provide a tool to foster greater innovation in Canadian society. The IP Innovation Clinic Chatbot, supported by ISED’s National IP Strategy, IP Clinics Program is already featured on the IP Osgoode website and can be accessed at the following link: https://www.iposgoode.ca/innovation-clinic-chatbot/. Please save the date for our IP Innovation Clinic Chatbot Launch event on January 29, 2020 at 12:30 pm EST.
  • The IP Intensive Program admitted a record number of 14 students for the fall 2020 term & welcomed three new placement organizations: Alectra Utilities; the Bergeron Entrepreneurs & Science and Technology (BEST) Lab; and the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, Performance and Partnerships branch. You can read more about the different placement organizations the IP Intensive offers.
  • This year our award-winning blog, IPilogue, featured over 130 new thoughtful intellectual property law and technology blog posts by student editors as well as by scholars and experts from around the world. All blog posts by Osgoode students continue to be considered for the Gowling WLG Best Blog in IP Law and Technology Prize.
  • We constantly update our IP Osgoode website where we continue to offer new and unexplored viewpoints to public policy discussions staying on top of leading IP law developments in Canada and internationally. Subscribe to our weekly e-newsletter IPIGRAM to receive the latest news and updates on IP law and technology issues.

As always, we welcome to hear from you about your most significant highlights and achievements of 2020. A community is only as strong as its members and we continue to welcome your feedback and hear from you on ways to work together. Let us know if you have any ideas for us to make 2021 an even more rewarding year!

On behalf of IP Osgoode, we wish you a happy holiday season and a healthy, safe and creative and productive new year!
