I love movies. And although my enjoyment of a movie can be hit-or-miss, I also love the act of going to the movies. The cultural cathedrals we call “movie theatres” are among the few remaining places you can go to disconnect from everything outside their walls. The auditorium is a bastion of civility where you […]
My placement at the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers (‘SOCAN’) as part of Osgoode's Intellectual Property Law and Technology Intensive Program was one of the most enriching experiences of my law school career. Firstly, the placement was the perfect marriage of student to organization, as I had a background in the music industry […]
Three months ago, I would have had only a vague notion of what a broadcaster does (or is), what entertainment or IP lawyers do, and how they intersect with producers and creators in the Canadian entertainment industry. Eleven weeks of interning with the Canadian television network, TVOntario, equipped me with a working knowledge of these […]
Giuseppina D’Agostino is the Founder and Director of IP Osgoode, the IP Intensive Program, and the IP Osgoode Innovation Clinic, the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the IPilogue, the Deputy Editor of the Intellectual Property Journal, and an Associate Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School. 2014 was another exciting year in intellectual property (IP) law. […]

We invite all 1L and 2L Osgoode students to join IP Osgoode at Osgoode’s Clinical Education and Intensive […]
This fall semester I had the honour of attending CodeX: The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics as part of Osgoode's Intellectual Property Law and Technology Intensive Program. CodeX’s broad mission is to design technologies for a better legal system. Taking this mission in earnest I set out to develop Econo.Mine, a legal analytics platform meant to […]
I'm able to catch a small slice of the chaos unfolding below while peering out through the line of windows spanning the 10th floor of the C.D. Howe Building. What began as nothing more than rumblings of a rumour has turned into a full-fledged security lockdown, with the entire city of Ottawa in a frantic […]
This past fall was a fascinating time to be at the CBC as broadcasters work to adapt to changing media consumption habits. It also marked the start of the Hockey Night In Canada partnership with Rogers, a scandal breaking about one of CBC’s most notable personalities, and Canadian news making international headlines. Having an interest […]
After two years of legal education in the classroom, starting my first semester of 3L by gaining practical experience as part of Osgoode’s Intellectual Property Law and Technology Intensive Program was a very welcome experience. Last year, as a member of Osgoode’s Harold G. Fox intellectual property moot team, I got a small taste of […]
Until mid-September of 2014, my perspective on legal policy was essentially limited to my experiences writing the policy section embedded in my law school and graduate school essays. This past fall I was fortunate enough to be enrolled in Osgoode's Intellectual Property Law and Technology Intensive Program and spend a semester at the Department of […]
