A Reflection on the Osgoode Mediation Intensive Clinical Program

Jan 18, 2021

By Andy Zhou I enjoyed my internship at Osgoode Mediation Clinic. As one of the experiential education components of Osgoode Hall Law school, it has offered me a great opportunity to hone my legal skillsets and improve my oral advocacy skills. From this program, I learned how to carry out client intakes at the court and conduct community and small claims court mediations. As a member of St. Stephen’s Division, my colleagues and I would go to two locations of the Ontario Court of Justice to screen the cases each week. We often read through the case summaries to decide…

Communicating Clearly on Campus (And Beyond!)

Jan 18, 2021

By Deena Gangbar One of my most memorable experiences from this summer was presenting in front of a group of Glendon Campus Students. By Michael Dunk One of the cornerstones of the Osgoode Mediation Clinical Program is the opportunity to conduct mediations at the Sheppard Avenue and Brampton Small Claims Courts. Being a student of the program during the past academic year, I attended and conducted mediations at both courthouses. Continuing with the Mediation Clinic over the summer, one of my many responsibilities was to continue offering mediation services to litigants at Brampton Small Claims Court on Friday mornings. This type of hands-on, experiential learning opportunity to apply theory to practice in a real-world environment was precisely what drew me to Osgoode in…

By Jean-Paul Bevilacqua On February 21, 2019, the Winkler Institute for Dispute Resolution hosted a symposium on the future of dispute resolution as a celebration of the Osgoode Mediation Clinic’s 10th anniversary. The symposium, entitled “Where Do We Go from Here? A Celebration, Discussion and Exploration of the Future of Dispute Resolution,” showcased the breadth of dispute resolution approaches in Canada from a diverse set of speakers and participants. The symposium was buzzing with curiosity and camaraderie as the participants and speakers explored dispute resolution across cultures, innovation in practicing and teaching dispute resolution, and options to expand dispute resolution…
