

The July 16, 2025 publication of YFile featured the Smart CREATE project. YFile is York University’s journal of record and campus newsletter. It is produced by York University’s Communications & Public Affairs Division (C&PA). It is distributed by email to more than 7,000 faculty, staff, students and friends of York University. YFile is also available to an external audience. It has its own embedded search engine, and is searchable on Google.

On February 5, 2026, the NSERC CREATE–SMART program hosted a hybrid Collaborators and PIs Meeting at York University, bringing together a strong and diverse group of faculty members, industry leaders, and community partners. The highly attended session featured research presentations, discussions on Indigenous community engagement, and plans for SMART’s living lab initiatives—reinforcing a shared commitment to advancing smart mobility research and training.

On April 27–28, 2026, York University hosted its 4th Annual NSERC CREATE Conference, bringing together six NSERC CREATE programs, including SMART, to celebrate trainee research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional development. The two-day conference featured keynote presentations, student oral and poster presentations, career development sessions, networking opportunities, and program updates, highlighting the breadth and impact of CREATE-funded research at York University.

On May 13 2026, the NSERC CREATE–SMART program continued to strengthen its partnership with Opaskwayak Cree Nation (OCN), bringing together researchers, trainees, and community partners to explore mobility solutions that support accessibility, connectivity, and community well-being. Discussions with OCN representatives focused on opportunities for community-informed research and micromobility initiatives, while laying the groundwork for long-term collaboration. The partnership reflects SMART’s commitment to developing innovative mobility solutions through meaningful community engagement and relationship-building.
