Training Program Objectives
The program’s long-term objective is to establish a sustainable training framework that extends beyond the CREATE funding period and fosters leadership across three domains: Research, Industry and Community (Table 1). To achieve this, the program provides an intense curriculum that delivers practical, interdisciplinary training in smart mobility for emerging scientists and engineers. The program is structured around three core training modules: (A) Technical and Research Training immerses trainees in state-of-the-art mobility facilities for technical and research skill development within the program’s five key themes, detailed in the Module A description below. (B) Professional Skills for industry leadership provides trainees with the skillset for success to work with industry partners through collaboration experiences, teamwork, internships, rotations, and co-supervision. (C) Collaboration and Community Engagement emphasizes community engagement and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives, ensuring that trainees are equipped with the skills to implement inclusive and socially impactful solutions, particularly through partnerships with Indigenous communities. The SMART curriculum systematically builds trainees’ research knowledge, professional skills and engagement disposition to address real-world challenges while fostering a commitment to equity and diversity. Table 1 summarizes the program’s structure and minimum requirements for each trainee level, ensuring all participants receive value-added training beyond standard academic offerings. Over the six-year period, the program aims to train 96 new HQP (Highly Qualified Personnel), as detailed in Table 2, equipping them to lead in the evolving landscape of sustainable and connected mobility systems.
