Frequently asked questions about resetting Passport York password or username

1. I have forgotten my student number.
2. I input my student number but I got an error.

1. I have forgotten my student number.

If you have forgotten your York University Student Number you can request it:

  • In-person at Student Client Services in the Bennett Centre for Student Services with government-issued photo id (e.g. passport, drivers
    license, age of majority card etc.). Here is their Web site for hours of operation and location:http://www.yorku.ca/scsweb/

  • Students who are currently enrolled and registered at York must present their identification in person.

  • Students who are not currently enrolled and registered at York may send an email to transcpt@yorku.ca with a legible, scanned attachment of a government-issued photo id (e.g. passport, drivers license, age of majority card etc.). Please ensure your email indicates that you are requesting your student number for a transcript order, along with the answers to the following questions so we can authenticate your identity:

      • Date of birth
      • Your mailing address while you were last at York
      • Your most recent academic program
      • The years you attended York

3. I have not set my secret questions or I cannot remember my secret questions answers.

METHOD 1:
You can go in person to the Helpdesk counter in the Computing Commons which is located in the William Small Centre. You must bring your ID:

Option 1
YU-card (issued to active students since Sep 2006)

Option2:
Government Issued photo ID (Driver's license, Passport etc.)
Second piece of ID (doesn't need to be photo ID)

METHOD 2:
In order for us to reset the Passport York password for you via email, send an e-mail to accounts@yorku.ca with the following for verification:

  1. Your student number
  2. York email address or username
  3. Your full name
  4. Your date of birth
  5. Your home mailing address on school record
  6. Postal code on school record
  7. We need to see either your Driver's License, or Passport, or Birth Certificate, please choose one of the following options:

    Option 1: PREFERRED (FASTER)
    Scan an the piece of ID (or take a digital picture of it with a phone or a digital camera) and attach to the e-mail (along with info from steps 1 - 6).

    Option 2: LESS EFFICIENT (SLOWER)
    Along with the e-mail (of steps 1 - 6), fax a legible photocopy to 416 736 5830,
    to the attention of accounts@yorku.ca with student number as reference (please make sure that your name and date of birth are readable).

  8. Wait for two business days, we will reset your password and send you your new password by e-mail (at the e-mail address from which you send us e-mail).

METHOD 3:
In order for us to reset the Passport York password over the phone, you will need to provide us with the following information:

  1. Your student number
  2. York email address or username (if you remember)
  3. Your full name
  4. Your date of birth
  5. Your home mailing address on school record
  6. Postal code on school record
  7. The last 4 courses you took

ATTENTION: Once your Passport York password has been reset, please update your security questions at
http://www.yorku.ca/yorkweb/currentstudents/mystudentrecords/index.html. Use the link titled "Update my security questions" under the "My
Personal Info
" section.

Once your secret questions have been updated, you can reset your password via the secret questions. If you ever forget your Passport
York login information, changes can be made at http://www.yorku.ca/computing/students/accounts/forgotppypwd.html.
