Job Description
To support our homebuilding efforts, Habitat for Humanity GTA operates Habitat ReStore—a network of social enterprise home improvement retail stores across the Greater Toronto Area. These stores collect and sell new and gently used donated home furnishings, appliances, and renovation materials at a fraction of their original price. Volunteers play a vital role in extending the life of these items, helping to reduce unnecessary waste and lower our collective carbon footprint.
As a ReStore volunteer, you help Habitat GTA build strength, stability, and independence for families in our community. Since 1988, we’ve built 25 new communities and provided over 500 families with affordable homes. Every item sold at ReStore—whether a light fixture, couch, or door—helps fund this mission and brings us closer to a world where everyone has a safe place to call home.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting up product displays and merchandising
- Pricing, assembling, and repairing donated items
- Greeting customers and providing service in-store and by phone (e.g., donation inquiries, promotions)
- Supporting our eCommerce platform by staging items, taking photos, and posting listings online
Qualifications
This role involves regular movement, including walking, standing, sitting, and using stairs. If you're ever unsure or uncomfortable with a task, please speak with a staff member—we’re here to support you!
Please note: Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older and are required to wear CSA approved green label safety shoes while volunteering. Safety shoes are available for borrow in a range of sizes at each location.
Come with a willingness to learn from experienced volunteers and staff and to work as part of a team. A positive attitude, enthusiasm, flexibility, and a sense of humour is always key! Tasks are not always glamorous, so be prepared to do a variety of things.
