COSAMH PRESENTS: TALK & TACKLE SOUTH ASIAN MENTAL HEALTH SERIES WORKSHOP 2

COSAMH is one of the first platforms at York University which focuses on mental health intersecting with South Asian identities. COSAMH aims to empower fellow South Asian youths at York University. Mental wellbeing is just as important as physical wellbeing which is an overlooked aspect in South Asian communities. We’d like to break down some barriers regarding mental health in the South Asian communities through our events and workshops.

COSAMH is continuing its evidence-based workshop series, Talk & Tackle.

The second workshop of the year will focus on the unique self-care practices found in South Asian cultures. The workshop will be conducted in two parts:

Part 1: Gentrification of South Asian Self Care (4:15 PM to 4:45pm) This section is created & will be presented by COSAMH's research coordinators and it will look at how the western world has gentrified South Asian self-care. There will be a special emphasis on yoga, mindfulness, and meditation practices.Part 2: Unique faith based self-care practices in South Asian culture (4:45 to 6:00pm) This part of the workshop will be presented by Kashmala Qasim, a PhD student at York University in collaboration with Khalil Centre, a psychological and spiritual wellness center in North York. There will be fun discussion based activities involved for attendees to be a part of throughout the workshop. Samosas and chai will be catered!Registration is mandatory.
