Lingua Franca: Apply to be a Mentee!
Lingua Franca is a non-profit organization funded by the Agents of Change program under the Calumet and Stong Colleges. Lingua Franca aims to provide a platform for ESL students to enhance their communication and public speaking skills along with a space to practice their leadership skills.
Our Mentorship Program aims to provide peer-to-peer support to ESL students through consistent discussion lounges and workshops as they aim to decrease speech anxiety in terms of public speaking/presentation. Mentees will be assigned a Mentor (based on matching interests) who will guide them throughout the year with constant communication and a bundle of resources. They will be formed in groups of 2-3 students (maximum 5) to create a group network, develop leadership, and build a community. Mentees are invited to participate and take part in the activities happening at Lingua Franca's Speech Festin March 2022.
Purpose of the Mentorship Program:
- To provide a comfortable space for ESL learners to practice their language skills
- To learn how to communicate professionally and informally in various situations
- To build teamwork, leadership, and professional development skills
- To have the opportunity to create their own community among people from different backgrounds but with similar experiences
What you can gain from this as a mentee:
- A space where you can freely enhance your English communication skills with continued support from the team- An opportunity to develop your leadership skills by working as a group- A chance to be recognized at the end of the year for your participation and improvement within the program- An opportunity to build relationships/network and to get involved within the York community
