Welcome to the Practicum component of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher Education Program of York University. The Mentor Teacher Resource room provides an overview of the Practicum for School Administrators and Mentor Teachers. The purpose of the Practicum is to support Teacher Candidates’ learning with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in a variety of professional settings using a range of communication modalities. The contribution of all educational partners in supporting and providing professional experience to Teacher Candidates is greatly appreciated.
Teacher Candidates complete two Practicum blocks. Each block consists of twenty continuous teaching days and is conducted under the supervision of a Mentor Teacher and a Practicum Facilitator from the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher Education Program.
Graduates from the program earn a Post Baccalaureate Diploma from York University and residents of Ontario are recommended to the Ontario College of Teachers for the qualification “Teaching Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing”. The program is accredited by both the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) and the Canadian Association of Educators of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (CAEDHH).
