Honorarium Information

Teachers who host Teacher Candidates in their classrooms should receive an Honorarium payment from the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher Education Program at the end of the placement term.  For an Honorarium to be paid to a Mentor Teacher a completed Honorarium form including signatures of the Mentor Teacher and a Practicum Facilitator must be submitted to the DHH Program office at the end of the Practicum term.

  • The standard rate for one Mentor Teacher mentoring one Teacher Candidate is $300.00
  • If two Mentor Teachers are assigned to one Teacher Candidate, then each Mentor Teacher is entitled to $150.00
  • The Practicum Facilitator must complete a Mentor Teacher Honorarium Payment Form on the last day of the Practicum placement; the Mentor Teacher Honorarium Payment Form includes the course information, Teacher Candidate name and dates of placement, as well as the Mentor Teacher’s information and original signatures
  • Each Mentor Teacher’s social insurance number (SIN) and date of birth must be recorded if an Honorarium is to be paid.  This information is required by Revenue Canada Agency. To protect your information, please do not include your social insurance number or date of birth on the forms. The Program Administrator will connect with you, or you can call the Program Administrator at a time that is convenient for you to provide this information.
  • As with all income, an Honorarium is taxable, and taxes will be deducted in accordance with Canada Revenue guidelines and taxation laws
  • Honorarium forms can only be processed after the last day of Practicum
  • Please also submit a completed Direct Deposit form and a void cheque or direct deposit form from your financial institution.
  • Payment is typically made within 6 weeks of submitting a completed Honorarium form
  • If your name has changed since you have last worked with us, please also complete the Name Change Request Form and submit it with your honorarium forms
