Mentoring Guide

  • Assist the Teacher Candidate in integrating theory and practice
  • Observe the TC during teaching assignments and provide feedback with suggestions for improvement (TC is responsible for recording the feedback and sharing it with the practicum facilitator)
  • Read and sign the weekly Feedback form where the student has recorded feedback given
  • Fill out the Practicum Summary form at the end of the block
  • Contact the Practicum Facilitator, if necessary, to discuss issues and concerns related to the student’s professionalism and/or progress
  • Create an open and collaborative mentoring/teaching environment
  • Design educational experiences
  • Extend the Student’s knowledge base through shared inquiry
  • Facilitate the development of skills in the areas of observation, planning and pedagogy
  • Provide access to relevant resources
  • Provide an on-going model of effective teaching practice
  • Review the Student’s lesson plans and making suggestions as appropriate
