The expectations noted below are to be used as a guiding framework and can be adjusted to better meet the needs of a specific practice teaching situation.
Fall practicum/Practicum 1 (TLSE 3716 0.00) involves more first-time experiences with D/deaf and hard of hearing learners and observation of effective practices. Less lessons will be executed independently during the first practicum but team teaching, involving Teacher Candidates in all lessons somehow and giving small incremental increases in responsibilities would be expected.
Week 1* | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 |
Observation and 1-2 Lessons | 1 Lesson per day | 1-2 Lessons per day | 2-3 Lessons per day |
Winter practicum/Practicum 2 (TLSE 3717 0.00) should involve more opportunities for independent lesson planning, implementation of accumulated feedback from both practicum experiences, and receiving constructive feedback of teaching in action. Most lessons will be executed independently during the Winter practicum with less team teaching, and greater expectations for implementing strategies learned throughout the program. TCs should be sharing gathered resources/materials with their MTs. By the end of the last week and within reason, TCs can be expected to complete as many tasks as would be found in the role (i.e., resources colleagues in the school environment) including planning and teaching all structured lessons.
Week 1* | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 |
First days: observe, End wk: 1 lesson/day Last part of week: 1 lesson/day | 1-2 Lessons per day | Most Lessons | Most Lessons |
Note: Part-time Teacher Candidates will follow a varied Teaching Guide.
