Director's Message

Welcome to the Chemistry Graduate community at York University. York is the 3rd largest university in Canada and as such, students have access to all the amenities of a small city within a city, including state-of-the-art sports and recreational facilities, more than 40 restaurants and pubs, a mall with 35 retailers for shopping, dental and medical services, as well as a whole host of student clubs and organizations, and support services. The university boasts 2 TTC subway stops on campus, making getting to the campus and exploration of Toronto fast and convenient.

Despite the large size of the university, the chemistry community is tightknit, with more than 100 graduate students, post-docs, faculty and staff, occupying space in modern laboratories in three buildings in the northwest science and engineering sector of the campus (Chemistry, Petrie Science & Engineering, and the new 160,000 ft2 Life Science Buildings). We offer state-of-the-art research instrumentation and world-class faculty (27 professors plus adjuncts) to aid in the completion of a Masters or PhD degree in chemistry. Research opportunities exist in all major fields of Chemistry including the traditional fields: Analytical, Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry, as well as emerging and specialized interdisciplinary fields; atmospheric, biological, computational, environmental, and materials chemistry.

Our graduates have been very successful in the past in securing meaningful careers in academia, government research (provincial and federal), and the vast array of high-tech industries in and around the Greater Toronto area. Chemists are in greater demand than ever before.

We are confident that entry into the Graduate Program in Chemistry at York will take you places you didn’t think possible. It’s an exciting time in your career and we want to help you achieve your full potential. We look forward to welcoming you on campus. If you have questions, please reach out to myself (chemgpd@yorku.ca) or the Graduate Program Assistant (chemgpa@yorku.ca),

Sincerely yours,
