The Graduate Program in Civil Engineering offers advanced training leading to Master of Applied Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The program covers three research theme areas: Sustainable Development; Designing for Climate Change; and Infrastructure and Resilience. Our curriculum gives you the flexibility to choose the direction and focus of your studies with a wide range of technical electives in structural, geotechnical, transportation, water resources, sanitary and environmental engineering.

Earth and Space Science was one of the founding graduate programs at York University and the Lassonde School of Engineering and CRESS is recognized internationally for, amongst other accomplishments, the development of satellites and scientific instruments for space exploration and scientific analysis.

The Master’s in Biotechnology Management focuses on how modern biotechnology management is performed and surveys the scientific, ethical, and societal contexts. The program is designed to appeal to students who hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Life Science, or a related discipline, and have little to no work experience in Biotechnology.

The Graduate Diploma in Biotechnology addresses an unfilled need in the Canadian Biotechnology Industry. Recently, enormous stress has been put on Canadian society, and the biotechnology industry has been leaned on heavily to bring forward high-value strategies and pharmaceutical options with many job openings remaining unfilled. The Graduate Diploma in Biotechnology is designed to increase the available pool of trained talent for the biotechnology industry and to strengthen the biotechnology ecosystem.

The Graduate Program in Development Studies offers students an intellectually rigorous and relevant interdisciplinary curriculum that is uniquely layered when examining theories and practices of development from a critical social science perspective.

Our research-intensive MA is a uniquely focused, but flexible graduate program. Through the program, students pursue a wide range of research interests as they relate to the field of development studies in both the Global South and North, including gender, education, health, urbanization, sports, forced migration, migrant settlement, global environmental crises, indigeneity, extractive industries, precariousness, etc. The MA is structured as a five-term program combining coursework, fieldwork and internship/placement.

York's Master of Disaster & Emergency Management (MDEM) is the only graduate program of its kind in Ontario and one of only two in Canada. The program equips students with the skills and competencies required to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from local, national and international disasters and emergencies. Studying on either a full-time or part-time basis in a flexible program that will allow you to pursue your own area of special interest, you will learn from an impressive group of academics with expertise in areas like environmental risks and management, natural hazards, business continuity planning, public health, humanitarian law, crisis management, war and complex emergencies.

York University's newly established PhD in Disaster & Emergency Management is the first such program in Canada. These new scholars – and the knowledge they produce – will contribute to developing theory and practice that will help those in Canada and around the world reduce the negative impacts of disasters and emergencies. The doctoral program is offered on a full-time and part-time basis, and prepares you to synthesize large amounts of complex information and make sound decisions in challenging and often difficult circumstances. The PhD in Disaster and Emergency Management program is designed for holders of master's degrees in DEM and related fields (such as environmental studies/sciences, public policy, health, and similar disciplines) who wish to pursue advanced studies and research.
