The Master’s in Interdisciplinary Studies—one of the first formalized graduate programs in Canada—enables highly motivated students to study within three distinct disciplines in order to deeply explore a particular problem or phenomenon. Students have the option to propose a research project and choose scholarly lenses from an intriguing range of interdisciplinary fields. The student’s unique area of inquiry may combine the fine arts, sciences, health, social sciences, engineering, humanities, law and more. 

Are you thinking of pursuing your graduate education in Science & Technology Studies? We invite you to attend our program session!

We are Canada’s largest first English STS graduate program in Canada, offering a PhD and a one-year MA program. Students in our program have an opportunity to work with interdisciplinary faculty whose research specialities include adaptive design, feminist technoscience, Indigenous and postcolonial STS, technoscientific capitalism, pandemics and epidemics, new genomics and pharmaceutical innovation, histories of experiments, ethics of artificial intelligence, Big Tech and the power of digital platforms, agnotology, public understanding of science, space exploration, and technological embodiments. We have spent the last three years revisioning and redesigning a new curriculum for the MA and PhD programs that focuses on improving student experience in light of changing student needs. A major new feature of the re-envisioned MA and PhD programs are the dynamic, experimental, and flexible Research Clusters that we have introduced. We have two Clusters running for the next three years: (1) Technoscientific Injustices; and (2) Bodies: Organic, Inorganic, Technological.

York’s Anthropology program is recognized as Top 5 ranking in Canada and Top 100 in the world. The program emphasizes theoretical and practical research that combines conceptual sophistication, reflexivity, and political engagement at various levels from the global to the regional and the local. Students find inspiration and opportunity to engage in ethnographic fieldwork (including digital) in places, communities, and archives on topics of contemporary and historical relevance.

Are you thinking of pursuing your graduate education in Public & International Affairs? We invite you to attend our program session!

Housed in Canada’s first bilingual School of Public and International Affairs, the two-year Master’s offers high-level bilingual preparation for leadership roles in public life. The program focuses on analyzing the key challenges in Canadian public life, placing Canadian public institutions in a global setting and applying the core knowledge and tools of public management and policy. Students have the opportunity to take on a paid internship with a government department, an international agency or a non-governmental organization.
