Our Programs

The Graduate Program offers courses, opportunities for research, and professional training leading to M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. With over $13 million currently held in external research funding, the program has been very successful in attracting support for its research. Our programs provide a broad foundation in the basic principles and methods of behavioural science, as well as, considerable field experience.

We admit around 40 new students to our graduate program each year (the majority being admitted to the Master of Arts Program). New students are generally distributed among the seven areas. Applicants are expected to specify the areas that are of primary and secondary interest to them. Once admitted, changing from one area to another is often not permitted. We give preference to applicants with strong academic backgrounds who appear promising as researchers; for the Clinical and Clinical-Developmental areas, we admit those who appear promising as scientist-practitioners. Our M.A. students normally proceed and successfully complete the requirements for a Ph.D. degree in Psychology.

It is extremely rare for the Graduate Psychology Program to admit external PhD students, that is, students who completed their Psychology MA degrees at another university. External PhD applicants should reach out to faculty members they wish to work with to see if they are open to taking external PhD students.
