Roommate Selection FAQs

Many students found their lifelong bestfriends in residence. Living with another student in a double room for an entire academic year can be exciting! After accepting a double room offer, students will be notified to select their future roommates as the next step prior to move-in. To select a roommate, follow the simple steps below:

1. Log back into your housing application portal.

New Students

Current Students

2. Select the 2022-2023 Academic Year at Keele and proceed to #13 Roommates.

3. On the Roommates Selection page, you will see that you have 3 ways to identify and select a roommate. Follow the instructions carefully.

You would receive email notifications if someone sent you are request or confirmed your request to be roommates. Once you have accepted a roommate or someone accepted your request, you are all set!

Here are some of the answers to your commonly-asked questions about Roommate Selection.

Selecting a roommate is not mandatory. If you opt not to select a roommate, we will try to assign you based on your answers to the lifestyle questionnaires in your application.

It is important that you communicate with your potential roommate/s and confirm if you are moving into the same building. You may only request/accept to be roommates with students who will be living in the same building that you accepted. If you selected a roommate that will be in a different building, this will not be valid and unfortunately will not be granted.

If you missed the deadline, we will assign you based on your answers to the lifestyle questionnaires in your application.

Yes, you can. The first one that accepts your request becomes your confirmed roommate.

If the deadline has not passed, you may still go back to the roommate step in the portal and select/request a new roommate. If you were not able to select another one or have missed the deadline, we will assign you based on your answers to the lifestyle questionnaires in your application.

If no one confirms your request, we will try to assign you based on your answers to the lifestyle questionnaires in your application.

You may reach out to undergradres@yorku.ca and request to cancel your roommate confirmation.

Regrettably, cancellations may still happen between now and move-in as students make changes on their plans. We will assign you with another roommate based on your answers to the lifestyle questionnaires in your application.

There are many factors that may impact this. For example, only students within the same gender group and offered double spaces will see each other’s profiles and request each other. If you cannot find the roommate you have in mind, likely, they may have been in a different gender group or have accepted another roommate.
