CCSEAS 2025 conference

The 37th Canadian Council for Southeast Asian Studies conference was held on 23–25 October 2025 in Victoria, B.C. The conference was organized by our amazing local organizing committee at the University of Victoria. 

YCAR has hosted the CCSEAS Secretariat since 2017 and support the organization of the biennial conference.

This year’s keynote speakers (above) were: Dang Anh Minh Nguyen (University of Toronto);Realisa Masardi (Universitas Gadjah Mada); Thiti Jamkajornkeiat (University of Victoria);Alvin Erasga Tolentino (Co.ERASGA Dance); and Juliet Lu (University of British Columbia).

Richard P. Fox (University of Victoria) passed the presidential torch to Susanna Barnes (University of Saskatchewan) who will organize and host CCSEAS 2027 in Saskatoon. For the first time in CCSEAS, we have a President Elect, Dennis Gupa (University of Winnipeg) who will take the role as President in Fall 2027 and organize the 2029 conference.
