I am a first-year PhD student in Sociology at York University. I completed my BA in Sociology at Chung-Ang University, Seoul, South Korea, and my MA in Sociology at York University.
My research areas include social class, labour, gender, race/ethnicity, im/migration and Asian/Korean diasporas. In terms of theory and methodology, I am interested in feminist political economy and qualitative methods.
My master's research explored how precarious work and precarious immigration status leads to migrant women’s particular structural vulnerability and resistance in Canada by building upon social reproduction theory and intersectionality. During my PhD journey, I would like to examine how young South Korean migrants with various backgrounds differentially navigate their everyday lives under global capitalism and the temporary immigration regime in Canada.
Beyond academia, I have also been participating in labour, feminist, im/migrant rights movements in South Korea. Currently, I am a member of Women Migrants Human Rights Center of Korea and Toronto Korean Feminist Collective WIND.
