Milan Kang (she/they) is a community-engaged researcher working on gender and sexuality, DEI policy, queer feminist activism, and human rights. She earned her MA in Sociology from York in 2024, where her research focused on the long-term collaboration and advocacy leadership of Korean feminist and queer movements in advancing comprehensive anti-discrimination legislation in South Korea. While pursuing her MA, she served as a research assistant on York University's 2SLGBTQ+ Poverty in Canada: Improving Livelihood and Social Wellbeing project from 2023 to 2024. In September 2026, she begins a PhD in Political Science examining parental rights mobilization, child protection discourse, and challenges to gender-inclusive education in Ontario and South Korea.
Since 2024, she has presented at the Canadian Political Science Association, Canadian Sociological Association, Canadian Anthropology Society, and Korean Association for LGBTQ+ and Queer Studies, among others, on topics ranging from far-right politics and the manosphere to food justice and environmental issues. Alongside her research, she remains actively engaged in community work dedicated to the social safety net, working with queer refugees, precarious workers, and seniors. She also serves as a Neighbourhood Climate Action Champion with the City of Toronto, supporting inclusive local climate action and community strength.
