Aarushie Sharma is a doctoral student in Social Anthropology at York University. She earlier worked as Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Hindu College, University of Delhi. Her PhD research revolves around the study of toilet politics and the infrastructure of sewage in Delhi, India. It aims at examining how sewage infrastructure shapes everyday life in the city, how it intersects with historical caste-based labour practices and cultural ideologies around human waste, and what it tells us about the local understandings of state in urban India. Her previous work on the topic has appeared in Economic & Political Weekly and Conversations in Development Studies. Alongside her doctoral research, she is interested in ethnographic filmmaking, and is passionate about creating spaces that encourage reflections on film and multimodality.
