Yu-Chen Chen is a doctoral student in Political Science at York University. Her research areas include critical digital transnational authoritarianism, dual citizenships and nationalities, online disinformation, and state propaganda processes. Her dissertation research, funded by a Canada Graduate Scholarship, examines how the Chinese Communist Party, as a foreign cyber threat actor, adapts to Canadian discourses of racialization and multiculturalism and creates new narratives that undermine the perceived legitimacy of an election or weaken trust in democratic institutions. Yu-Chen holds an MA in European and Russian Affairs from the University of Toronto, where she explored the topic of the detained Kazakhs in Xinjiang. She is still working on the Xinjiang human rights issue with other activists for her side research.
