We commit to broadening and deepening our global relations, awareness and sense of interdependence with others around the world.

This principle calls on us to think of ourselves, both institutionally and individually, as interdependent with others around the world and to act as conscientious members of globally networked systems and communities.
Awareness of the interconnections among peoples, economies, states, ecologies and histories requires us to recognize our role in global systems and dynamics. While this principle supports York’s engagement with regions around the world through international student enrolment, academic partnerships and research projects, it requires that we do so conscientiously: on reciprocal, equitable terms; through means that minimize ecological, cultural and economic harms; equipped with intercultural competencies and skills; and with the purpose of cultivating mutually respectful relations.
Decisions and actions focused on York’s global engagement should align with our commitment to cultivate relationships and an awareness of intricate interconnections.
