Engaging Constructively with Controversial Issues Webinar with Dr. Judith L. Pace

In a world erupting with conflict, supporting students to explore and discuss social, and political issues and problems is both urgent and difficult. Join us for a webinar led by Dr. Pace, Professor Emerita at the University of San Francisco’s School of Education and author of Hard Questions: Learning to Teach Controversial Issues to explore holistic approaches to constructive engagement with controversial issues in classrooms. Dr. Pace will present her framework on reflective practice, which emerged from her research project on preparing preservice teachers to teach controversial issues that matter for democracy, justice, and human rights in Northern Ireland, England, and the United States. She will also share insights, concepts, and pedagogical tools from her recent teaching and research project in Bosnia-Herzegovina and South Africa.

About Dr. Pace Judith L. Pace is a professor emerita at the University of San Francisco’s School of Education in California, U.S. Her scholarship examines classroom teaching and curriculum and its relationship to diversity, democracy, and sociopolitical and cultural contexts. Dr. Pace has published four books, numerous research and practitioner articles, and a website with a framework and resources for teaching controversial issues. Dr. Pace has taught and/or conducted research in Bosnia-Herzegovina, South Africa, Northern Ireland, England, and the United States.
