Passings: Faculty of Science Professor Emeritus Michael Boyer

Prof. Boyer joined York University in the 1960s as one of the first professors of biology. Prof. Boyer was a botanist and plant pathologist. A woodlot on York University’s Keele Campus was named The Michael G. Boyer Woodlot in recognition of his years of service to the University and for his tireless efforts to enhance the campus environment by conserving and expanding its woodlots.

Passings: Renaissance scientist Huw Owen Pritchard

Distinguished Research Professor at York University’s Faculty of Science, Huw Owen Pritchard, died peacefully on Aug. 9 at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga. A long-serving member of the Department of Chemistry, he began his career at York in 1965 and retired in 1998.

Passings: Charles Hammond Dugan

Professor Emeritus Charles Hammond Dugan died peacefully on June 23. His research interests were in atomic, molecular and optical physics, as well as spectroscopy and astro-chemistry.

Passings: Bob Accinelli

A long-time supporter of York University, Bob (Robert) Accinelli was the husband of the late Nancy Accinelli, Vanier College Production’s Executive Producer Emeritus. Accinelli died on Wednesday, July 3.

Passings: Professor Emerita Marilyn Silverman

Professor Emerita Marilyn Silverman, a long-standing member of the Department of Anthropology in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies at York University, died on Tuesday, June 18 at her home following a long struggle with cancer.

Passings: Former comptroller John A. Heber

John A. Heber, long-time York University staff member, died peacefully in his 88th year on Sunday, June 9. He retired from York University in 1989 after completing 20 years in the University’s Department of Finance.
