Math modelling from York cited by Toronto health officials to forecast impact of variants

On February 8, 2021, Dr. Eileen de Villa told Toronto residents their city was entering a new pandemic due to the introduction of variants of concerns and asked them to be remain vigilant about public health measures. She said based on modelling by York’s Centre for Disease Modelling, if transmission of COVID increased by 20 per cent, deaths in Toronto could rise to almost 5,500 by May.
