About the Company
DANI, which stands for Developing and Nurturing Independence, is a registered charity in the Greater Toronto Area that provides services to neurodivergent adults. DANI supports individuals through day programs, supported employment, skills training, and social enterprises. Our purpose is to help each person build practical skills and take part in community life in ways that are meaningful to them.
This opportunity is with the Skills Training and Employment Program, known as STEP. STEP offers in-person training for neurodivergent adults in areas such as technology and hospitality, and it helps students work toward industry-recognized certifications in a setting that adapts to how each person learns.
Job Description
The Program Facilitator helps the STEP program coordinators deliver the STEP curriculum to students during evening sessions. The main part of the role is supporting students as they learn, either one on one or in small groups, by explaining ideas in clear steps, answering questions, and encouraging students as they practice new skills.
The facilitator also helps each session run smoothly by assisting with activities and materials as the coordinators direct, and may help students with organization, staying on task, and breaking activities into manageable steps. The program coordinators guide the work, so the facilitator is supported by a team throughout the placement. This role offers hands-on experience in adult education, disability inclusion, and community-based programming.
Qualifications
We welcome students who are kind, patient, and respectful, and who enjoy helping other people learn. A good fit is someone who communicates in a calm and clear way, is comfortable working with individuals who learn in different ways, is comfortable receiving direction and feedback from the program coordinators, and is willing to support students one on one or in a small group. An interest in education, social work, disability studies, psychology, community services, or a related field is helpful, and students from any area of study are encouraged to apply.
No previous work or volunteer experience is required. The essential requirements of the role are attending the scheduled evening sessions in person, treating every student with respect, and completing a Vulnerable Sector Screening. This is a police check that is required for people who work with vulnerable people, and it is a standard step for roles like this one.
DANI welcomes applicants of all backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities, and will work with the selected student to plan any accommodations that would help them take part fully.
Additional Information
This role is in person at the STEP location: 401 Magnetic Drive, Unit 25, North York, Ontario M3J 3H9. Sessions take place between 5:30-9:30 in the evening.
Time Commitment: The role requires two evenings per week, with 4 hours each evening, for a total of eight hours per week. This adds up to approximately 32 hours per month.
The placement follows the STEP semester schedule, and the specific evenings and dates will be confirmed with the selected student before the placement begins.
